Special Interest Group on Artificial Intelligence (SIGAI)

Artificial Intelligence (AI) as a discipline got an impetus in India with the Knowledge Based Computer Systems (KBCS) project in the 1980s, and has been growing since then. Today, there are many institutions active in different areas of AI ranging from Intelligent Document Processing and Robotics to Case Based Reasoning and Knowledge Representation, apart from the strategically important area of Natural Language Processing. We have today in India international conferences in AI and a quarterly journal in AI. Papers from Indian authors are competing well with international work. Perhaps the best recognition of India's strength in AI is our winning the bid to host International Joint Conference in Artificial Intelligence (IJCAI - 07) the premier AI conference in the world in India held at Hyderabad from 6 to 12 Jan 2007.

The Special Interest Group on Artificial Intelligence (SIGAI) of the Computer Society of India (CSI) proposes to provide a national forum for promoting AI and exchanging of information related to AI research. This would be done through a variety of initiatives including journals, conferences and workshops.

We invite every CSI member with an active interest in AI and related areas of research and applications to enroll in SIGAI and strengthen this initiative. We also request you to encourage your local Chapters to identify individual contact points for SIGAI to act as a channel of communication between SIGAI and the Chapter members.
